The Cougar squad leads team standings by building a seven-point advantage with 46 points through seven scored events. Going into the final day of the meet, the Blue Demon men stand in 10th place with 10 total points.
Anthony Becknek recorded the second individual title for the Blue Demons, the first on the men’s side, winning the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 9:10.19. This performance marked a career best for the sophomore, landing only two seconds shy of the 9:08.15 NCAA Championships qualification time.
Clayton Smith also participated in the event, falling in the 17th spot with a 10:23.87 finish.
Three DePaul members took part in the 800 meter run. Richard Byrne led the group with an 11th place finish. Byrne’s time of 1:54.04 marked a season and personal best time for the sophomore. Dan Branca followed in 15th posting a time of 1:57.59, while Jeff Perkins spotted a 2:02.85 finish for 19th place.
In the men’s long jump, Rashard Deleston flew 6.78m (22’03.00”) and placed himself in the 12th spot of the event.
The meet concludes on Saturday. Field events scheduled for Saturday are the men's triple jump and shot put competitions, along with the men's high jump and pole vault. Saturday's running events are finals in the 100-meter, 200-meter, 400-meter, 800-meter and 1,500-meter races. The other final races include the men's 110-meter hurdles and the 400-meter hurdle races, as well as the 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter relay races.
