CHICAGO- For the second time this season, DePaul sophomore Megan Huitink has been named Conference USA Pitcher of the Week. The sophomore threw back-to-back shutouts last week and helped the Blue Demons to a perfect 5-0 record for the week ending May 1.
Huitink won two of DePaul’s five games last week posting a 0.00 ERA with 14 strikeouts in 15 innings of work. She was also credited with a save on Sunday at USF.
The sophomore’s first shutout came on Thursday against Valparaiso, allowing just one hit while striking out six Crusader batters.
On Saturday Huitink gave up three hits while fanning seven USF batters.
Huitink is the first Blue Demon to record back-to-back shutouts since Lindsay Chouinard (2000-03) did it in 2003.
Keli Harrell from East Carolina shared the Pitcher of the Week award with Huitink.
The Blue Demons will break from C-USA action this week to play city of Chicago rivals, Loyola and No. 15 Northwestern on Tuesday and Thursday, respectively. DePaul will closeout the regular season with a three-game C-USA series with Louisville at Wish Field over the weekend. The Blue Demons hold a two-game lead over the Cardinals in the C-USA regular season race, and need to win two games to win the league title and wrap up the No. 1 seed in the C-USA Tournament.
