Blue Demons Capture Regional Championship

DePaul sophomore starter Megan Huitink retired the first seven batters before giving up her first hit in the third inning. The sophomore fanned the first four batters and finished the game with seven strikeouts. Five of the six OSU runs were unearned as Huitink gave up seven hits on her way to her 20th victory of the season.
The Blue Demons bats exploded in the bottom first inning registering three runs on three hits. Senior left fielder Dana Kenney led off the game with a base hit to left field. Designated player Ashley Parker reached safely on her fielder’s choice bunt which moved Kenney to second. Sophomore center fielder Linda Secka sent her ninth home run of the season over the center field fence to give DePaul a 3-0 lead. Right fielder Sara Bandauski also recorded a hit in the first inning.
The top of the order got the Blue Demons offence going again in the bottom of the third. Kenney led off the inning with a bunt single, Parker reached on an error and freshman second baseman Sandy Vojik recorded a RBI single to right field. The Blue Demons loaded the bases with one out and pinch hitter Kate Sheaks sent a sacrifice fly to left field, but Vojik was called out for not tagging.
OSU registered two runs in the top of the fourth on Adrienne Alo’s double to right field. Alo’s double came with two outs and scored Lisa Allen, who reached on an error and Cambria Miranda, who singled. Both runs were unearned.
The Blue Demons added four runs in the fourth inning, to extend its lead to 8-2. Senior short stop Jenny Doezie led off the inning with a double and scored on Marcy Wilus’ fielder’s choice. Wilus, who was safe at first, crossed the plate two batters later on Vojik’s sacrifice fly.
Roberson doubled to left center to score Kenney and Parker, who singled earlier in the inning.
The Beavers took advantage of DePaul’s fielding woes to post three runs on two hits the bottom of the sixth inning.
OSU’s Vanessa Iapola brought the Beavers within two with a solo home run in the seventh with two outs.

Dana Kenney and Sandy Vojik finished the tournament with the second and third best batting average. Kenny was 5-11 for a .455 batting average and Vojik was 4-9 with a .444 average
Huitink appeared in three of the four games and had a tournament low 0.43 ERA. She struck out 20 batters while giving up just 10 hits.
