Softball Drops Two to Louisville

CHICAGO -- The DePaul softball team dropped two games to Conference USA foe Louisville Saturday afternoon at Wish Field.  The Cardinals won the first game 4-0 and the second game 10-2.  Louisville improves to 38-16 and 19-4 in league play while DePaul falls to 37-17 and 19-4 in C-USA.

Louisville pitcher Aja Sherman (19-9) gave up just two hits and struck out 14 Blue Demon batters in the first game. 

DePaul sophomore center fielder Linda Secka and freshman Marcy Wilus were each credited with hits.  Secka sent a double to left center in the second frame and Wilus singled in the third.

Louisville took a two-run lead in the top of the third on a Courtney Moore’s home run to right field.

The Cardinals added another run in the sixth on Sara Bausher’s double to right center.  Bausher tried to advance to third but a strong throw by Secka halted Bausher in her tracks and she was caught by third baseman Jenny Doezie for the out.

Louisville posted their final run in the seventh frame on Candi Hicks’ double to left center.

DePaul starter Megan Huitink (16-10) recorded the loss, giving up eight Cardinal hits while striking out six batters. Leslie Scott threw the final inning for the Blue Demons.

Louisville posted two runs in the first frame of game two.  The Blue Demons allowed the first two batters to reach on errors and the following two Cardinals registered hits.

The Blue Demon fielding woes continued in the second inning, allowing Louisville to score four runs on two hits and two errors.

Louisville added four more runs in the top of the seventh to extend their lead to 10-0.

Jenny Doezie and Sheaks led off the bottom of the seventh with back-to-back hits to the left side.  Sheaks’ second double of the day plated the Blue Demons first run.  Three batters later, Sheaks crossed the plate on a Dana Kenney’s single to left field.

DePaul lost the second game 10-2.

Catherine Bishop recorded the win for the Cardinals striking out eight DePaul batter, but gave up six Blue Demon hits. 

DePaul sophomore starter Tracie Adix (21-6) recorded the loss.  The sophomore threw the first two innings before Scott entered the game to throw the final five innings.  

The Blue Demons and the Cardinals will tangle at Noon on Sunday.  The winner of tomorrow’s game will capture the C-USA regular season title.  DePaul will honor the four Blue Demon seniors at the conclusion of game.
