CHICAGO-- DePaul track and field coach, Gordon Thomson recently announced that
Brandon Murer is joining the Blue Demon staff as an assistant coach. Murer will work with the Blue Demon throwers and brings extensive experience from all levels to the program.
"I am really excited to have Brandon join the DePaul track family," Thomson said. "His experiences as a collegiate thrower were remarkable and his coaching ability will have an immediate impact this season."
Murer a four-year varsity letter winner at Indiana State also spent two seasons with the Sycamores as an assistant coach. As a student assistant in 1997-98, he helped six throwers to earn all Missouri Valley Conference accolades. He also helped guide a hammer thrower to a MVC championship.
During the 1999-2000 season, Murer was named a volunteer assistant at Indiana State where he worked with all throwers and multi-event athletes. He helped three athletes break school records, 20 meet records and three MVC records. Under Murer's direction he developed 18 MVC placers, six all-conference athletes and one All-American weight thrower.
Following a successful collegiate coaching stint, Murer was named an assistant coach at Danville Community High School in Indiana. As the throws coach at Danville, he developed the Indiana State High School runner-up in shot put (2000) and several regional and sectional champions.
Along with his duties with the throwers, Murer will supervise the Blue Demon workouts and serve as the recruiting coordinator.
Murer graduated from Indiana State University in 1997 with a degree in Fine Arts and is also a certified massage therapist. He resides in Chicago.
