CHICAGO– The DePaul softball team welcomes instate rival Illinois to Cacciatore Stadium for a doubleheader on Wednesday. The first pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. with the second game beginning 20 minutes after the conclusion of game one.
Wednesday meeting marks the 10th time the Illini and Blue Demons have squared off with Illinois leading the series 5-4-1. Last season the teams split a doubleheader in Champaign with offenses combing for 29 hits and 19 runs. The Illini took the first game 7-6 but the Blue Demons bounced back to win the second game 5-1.
The Blue Demons (18-11, 5-3 BIG EAST) have won seven of their last 10 games, including BIG EAST series sweeps over Connecticut and Pittsburgh. Freshman Amber Patton leads DePaul and is ranked third in the BIG EAST with a .403 batting average. Classmate Stephanie Blagaich Blue Demons in the circle, appearing in 13 games and has won six of her last seven outings.
Illinois (16-22, 3-5 Big Ten) enters Wednesday's competition sweeping Penn State in State College last weekend. Senior Jenna Hall pilots Illinois' offense with a .505 batting average and is one of three Illini with 30 plus RBI.
The Blue Demons are 3-1 this season at Cacciatore Stadium and are 2-1 when they play Illinois on their home field.
