Softball Struggles Against UIC

UIC 10, DePaul 4
CHICAGO– The DePaul softball team struggled against UIC, dropping a 10-4 decision Thursday at Cacciatore Stadium. The Flames improve to 18-26 on the season while the Blue Demons fall to 20-15.
The Blue Demon defense stymied their offensive efforts as they committed six fielding errors and registered six hits. The Flames scattered eight hits and committed no errors.
UIC took a 5-0 lead in the third, capitalizing on three hits and three DePaul errors. The Flames batted around the order as Melissa Marinacci led off the inning with a home run to left field and starting pitcher Sarah Clynes followed with a one-out infield single. Joyce Cathey was also credited with a hit during the inning.
The Blue Demons cut the Flames lead to one, by posting runs in third, fourth and fifth innings. Sophomore Sandy Vojik got DePaul on the board with a RBI infield single in the third.
Sophomore Marcy Wilus heated up the DePaul base path in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run triple off the right field wall and junior Linda Secka tacked on DePaul's final run on a double to right field.
The Flames answered the Blue Demon's charge with five runs in the top of the sixth inning. All of UIC's runs were scored with two outs.
Clynes (10-5) earned the win for the Flames, notching six innings of work and gave up six hits while striking out six batters.
Junior Tracie Adix (6-5) took the loss for the Blue Demons. The junior threw four innings, giving up four hits and five runs, only one was earned. Freshman Stephanie Blagaich threw the final three innings and allowed five runs on four hits. The duo combined for four strikeouts.
