Softball Hosts Rutgers and Villanova this Weekend

CHICAGO – The DePaul softball team welcomes Rutgers and Villanova to Cacciatore Stadium for a pair of BIG EAST doubleheaders.  The Blue Demons square off with the Scarlet Knights on Saturday at Noon and the Wildcats at 11:00 a.m. following the Cacciatore Stadium dedication on Sunday.

The Blue Demons (20-15) enter the weekend 5-5 in conference play and are in seventh place in the standings.  Rutgers, 4-8 is currently in 10th place and Villanova sits in 12th with a 2-12 league record.

DePaul is 9-7 during the month of April and 5-3 at Cacciatore Stadium.  Sophomore infielder Marcy Wilus leads the Blue Demons offensively in April.  She boasts a .421 batting average and eight of her 16 hits have been for extra bases. Along with Wilus, Amber Patton, Sandy Vojik and Jackie Tarulli-Fisher have also tallied 16 hits during the month of April.

Overall, Wilus leads the team in five of nine offense categories including RBI (22), on base percentage (.467) and slugging percentage (.653). Patton guides the offense with a .381 batting average and Wilus follows with .347 average.

Rutgers (12-30, 4-8) is led by Brittany Loisel, who is batting .321 and has a .371 on base percentage.  Rutgers' four women pitching staff boasts a 4.05 ERA and is led by Christina Yard, who has appeared in 25 games.

Villanova has four players batting over .300 but has struggled this season and enters the weekend 13-28.  Meghan Morese leads the Wildcats with a .367 batting average and has knocked in a team high 35 runs.

DePaul has played Rutgers once in school history with the Scarlet Knights winning the 1989 meeting, 1-0.  The Blue Demons have never faced Villanova.
