Offense Pushes Blue Demons Past Villanova

Freshman Stephanie Blagaich provided the Blue Demons with an offensive push and went 3 for 7 at the plate. The freshman also registered a pair of RBI. Juniors Jessica Evans and Linda Secka also tallied two RBI on the day.
Junior Tracie Adix earned the win in both games to improve to 9-5 on the season. The junior threw a complete game one and tossed four innings in the second game before being relieved by Blagaich and senior Leslie Scott. Adix struck out seven batters and gave up no runs or walks. Blagaich was tabbed with the Wildcats two runs.
The Blue Demons return to action on Tuesday, April 25 when they host
Game One Recap
The Blue Demons used a six run sixth to propel them past Villanova in game one. Freshman Amber Patton led off the inning with a single to the left side and freshman Jackie Tarulli-Fisher was intentionally walked to put runners on first and second. Two outs and batters later Blagaich got the DePaul bats going again, sending a RBI single to the left side. Secka followed with her own RBI single before senior Sara Polensky took a free pass from Wildcat starter Laura Determan.
Evans knocked in the Blue Demons fourth run of the inning on an infield single and sophomore Marcy Wilus was credited with an RBI when she was hit by a pitch. The final run of the game scored as a result of a throwing error by the Villanova shortstop.
The Blue Demons other runs came in the first in and fourth innings. In the first inning, Sandy Vojik connected on a single to center to score Tarulli-Fisher who doubled with two-outs. Junior Kate Sheaks, smashed her fifth home run of the season in the fourth to give the Blue Demons a 2-0 lead.
Determan (4-12) took the loss for the Wildcats and threw 5.2 inning and Megan Hord faced the final two Blue Demon batters. The duo combined for three strikeouts and gave up eight hits.
Game Two Recap
DePaul jumped to and early lead and scored three runs in the first and tacked on four in the third.
Blagaich knocked her second RBI of the day in the first inning when she connected on a hard hit single to the left field gap. The next two Blue Demon runs were scored on an error at second base.
The Blue Demons tacked on four runs on two hits and three Wildcat errors in the third. Blagaich and senior Sara Bandauski were credited with singles.
Villanova's only two runs on the day came in the sixth inning when Cassie Koenig connected on a two-run home run off Blagaich.
The Blue Demons added a run in the seventh on back-to-back doubles by junior Cara Santori and Evans.
Kat Walsh (9-14) was tabbed with the loss and threw just the first inning and Megan Hord threw the final five innings. The duo scattered eight hits and two earned runs. The Wildcats recorded four errors in the second game.
