Blue Demons Shutout Northern Illinois

CHICAGO – DePaul freshman Stephanie Blagaich threw her fourth shutout of the season to aid in the Blue Demons' 3-0 victory over Northern Illinois Tuesday at Cacciatore Stadium.

Blagaich scattered three hits and struck out three en route to her ninth victory this season.

The Blue Demons (25-15, 9-5) needed just four hits, including a two-run home run from sophomore Marcy Wilus, to notch three runs on the afternoon.

Wilus' fifth home run of the season soared over the center field fence to put the Blue Demons on the board in the bottom of the third. Wilus' long ball scored Kara Amundson, who led off the inning with a single to left field.

DePaul added its final run in the fourth inning on heads up running by sophomore Sandy Vojik.  The sophomore found herself in a rundown and tagged home plate on Linda Secka's fielder choice to the first baseman.

Northern Illinois (18-21, 6-8) threatened in the top of the sixth when Kelly Drozd doubled to centerfield; but Blagaich would retire the next two batters and end the Huskies threat.

Taryn Hagemann (6-12) suffered the loss for Northern.  Hagemann threw the first four innings before being relieved by Lindsey LaChiana.

The second game of the doubleheader was cancelled due to weather.

The Blue Demons will be back in action on Wednesday welcoming Bowling Green to Cacciatore Stadium for an afternoon doubleheader.  The first pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
