LOUISVILLE– The DePaul softball team dropped a BIG EAST doubleheader in
Sophomore Sandy Vojik was credited with two of the Blue Demons four hits on the day. The sophomore registered a RBI single in the first game and knocked a double off the left field wall in the second game.
The Blue Demons took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning of game one. Lead off batter, sophomore Marcy Wilus reached on a throwing error by
Catherine Bishop earned the win for the Cardinals and struck out seven batters.
Junior Tracie Adix (9-6) took the loss for the Blue Demons and threw her 10th complete game of the season. The junior scattered three hits and struck out one.
Knotted in a scoreless tie, the Blue Demons had a chance to push a run across in the top of the third in the nightcap. Sara Polensky, pinch hitting for DePaul starter Stephanie Blagaich led off the inning with a single to right center. Blagaich reentered the game to run, advancing to second on Kara Amundson's sacrifice bunt and to third on freshman Amber Patton's single up the middle. With runners on first and third, Blagaich and Patton were both caught stealing to end the DePaul threat.
The Cardinals loaded the bases in the bottom of the fifth with one out; but were thwarted by the Blue Demons defense, who preserved the scoreless ballgame.
Senior Leslie Scott relieved Blagaich in the third frame and faced the final 22 batters. Scott surrendered five hits and stuck out one.
Bishop (22-5) was credited with the win in the second game, entering the game with one out in the fifth for starter Kady Garrick. The duo scattered three hits and struck out six.
