Track and Field to Compete at Chicagoland Championships

CHICAGO- The DePaul track and field teams have the luxury of competing close to home this week as they join squads from UIC, Loyola-Chicago, Trinity Christian and
Lindsey Deason starts the action for the Blue Demons on Thursday as she begins the women’s heptathlon; competing in the 100m hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200m dash. She concludes the heptathlon on Friday with the long jump, javelin throw and 800m run.
Coming off a successful performance at last week’s Notre Dame Spring Opener, DePaul’s throwers open Friday’s events at noon with the women’s hammer throw. Last week’s winner, Tammy Burris will be joined by Jamie Holifield, Jeana LeRoy and Erika Lockhart, all of whom will also throw the shot put at 3:30 p.m.
The Blue Demon distance runners close out Friday’s events with the 10,000m run at 4:30 p.m. The women’s race features Carrie Moffett, Emily Prettyman and Colleen Stiles-Shields while the men are represented by Jeremy Applebaum, Brian Godar and Ryan Solomon.
The final day of competition begins on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. with Deason in the women’s javelin throw, Ryan Thompson in the long jump and triple jump and Burris, Holifield, LeRoy and Lockhart in the women’s discus.
Track events begin at 11:00 a.m. as Kelly Cunningham and Moffett participate in the women’s 5,000m run and the men’s and women’s 4x100m relays kick off. The women’s relay team of Mary Hodges, Kyra Coffey, Jessica Rodriguez and Stephanie Williams come off a first place finish from last week in the 4x100m.
The meet will conclude on Saturday afternoon with the men’s and women’s 4x400m relays. Team scoring will be kept with points awarded to the top eight places in each event.
DePaul is also scheduled to compete in the men’s 3,000m steeplechase, men’s high jump, men’s and women’s 1,500m run, men’s 110m hurdles, men’s and women’s 400m run, men’s and women’s 100m dash, men’s and women’s 800m run, men’s 400m hurdles, men’s and women’s 200m dash, and men’s 5,000m run.
