Offense Explodes at UIC

Freshman Stephanie Blagaich went the distance in the circle for the Blue Demons and notched her 12th win of the season. The freshman scattered five hits and fanned five UIC batters.
DePaul jumped out to an early lead, registering two-runs in the first frame. Sophomore Sandy Vojik led off the game with a single up the middle and freshman Amber Patton followed with a bunt single. Junior Kate Sheaks gave the Blue Demons a 2-0 lead with a two-out double.
Vojik again ignited the Blue Demon offense in the third inning, leading off with a double through the left side and advanced to third on Patton's sacrifice bunt. Freshman designated player Jackie Tarulli-Fisher pushed Vojik across the plate on a deep fly ball to right field.
The Flames cut the DePaul lead to one on Melissa Marinacci's double in the bottom of the third.
Juniors Kara Amundson and Cara Santori cushioned the Blue Demon lead, each with one swing of the bat. Amundson belted her second home run of the season in the fifth frame and Santori's first career home run came in the seventh inning.
Sarah Clynes (12-6) suffered the loss for the Flames and threw five innings before being replaced by Kelly Cross. The duo gave up five earned runs and struck out one.

The Blue Demons need one win this weekend to secure a spot in the BIG EAST Tournament. The league office will announce the tournament pairings on Sunday, May 7 with games beginning on Thursday in
