Game 1 Recap
The Blue Demons had to play catch-up in the first game as the Pirates struck first, scoring in the first inning. A first inning walk came back to haunt DePaul starter Stephanie Blagaich. Akoua Lonergan led off the game with a walk and later scored on Katie Pierce's sacrifice fly.
Blagaich helped her cause in the fifth inning, leading off the top of the frame with a double to left field and scoring on senior Sara Bandauski's sacrifice fly to deep right field.
The Pirates took back the lead in the bottom of the frame on a Kealan Waldron home run.
Freshman Jackie Tarulli-Fisher answered Waldron's home run with one of her own. The freshman's tenth home run of the season cleared the left field wall and ignited the Blue Demon bats in the top of the sixth. Following Tarulli-Fisher's home run juniors Linda Secka and Jessica Evans connected on back-to-back doubles and Blagaich reached on a error at shortstop. Evans was credited with a RBI and stole home to give DePaul a 4-2 lead.
The Blue Demons tacked on two more runs in top of the seventh, taking advantage of two hits and a costly Pirate error.
Blagaich (13-5) threw a complete game and gave up two runs on four hits and fanned five batters. Kim Schweitzer (12-10) took the loss for Seton Hall.
Game 2 Recap
The second game mirrored the first, as the Pirates jumped ahead 1-0, only to have the Blue Demons tie the game, two innings later.
Pierce gave Seton Hall a 1-0 lead on home run to center field in the third inning.
DePaul took the run back in the fifth on sophomore Sandy Vojik's RBI base knock to left center. Vojik's single scored pinch runner Katie Hanson, who was running for junior Kara Amundson. The junior reached a dribbler in front of the plate with one out.
Blue Demon fielding errors allowed the Pirates to take a 2-1 lead in bottom of the fifth with two outs. Pierce reached on a double to left field, advanced to third on an error and scored on a failed pick-off attempt.
The Blue Demons used a trio of fielder's choices to tie the ballgame in the top of the sixth. Blagaich's fielder's choice evened the ballgame at two apiece.
Blagaich again gave the Blue Demons an offensive boost, knocking a RBI single to left center. Amundson laid down a perfect bunt, which allowed a sprinting Blagaich to score from third.
