Women's Soccer Drops Match at Rutgers

PISCATAWAY, N.J. Needing a win to stay alive for a BIG EAST Tournament berth, the DePaul women’s soccer team lost by a 2-0 score at Rutgers. The Scarlet Knight scored a goal in each half with scores by Domenique Esposito in the 37th minute and Amanda Allessio in the 46th minute.
Rutgers (9-7-2, 4-4-2 BIG EAST) scored the first goal 10 minutes prior to intermission when Esposito finished off a play assisted by Jenifer Anzivino and Rheanne Sleiman. Anzivino started the play with a pass to Sleiman where she found Esposito on the right side. Sleiman’s passed went to the feet of Esposito as she tapped it in at 36:39.
The Scarlet Knights added the insurance goal 58 seconds into the second half when Anzivino and Sleiman set up Allessio at 45:58. This time it was Sleiman starting the play with a pass to Anzivino. Anzivino’s serve towards the goal was headed in by Allessio for the 2-0 final score.
Kelsey Hoinkes finished the match with six saves for the Blue Demons while Erin Guthrie totaled one save for Rutgers. Rutgers outshot DePaul, 20-1, in the 90 minutes of action.
DePaul (5-12-1, 2-8-0 BIG EAST) finishes the 2007 season on Sunday afternoon at Seton Hall. The Pirates and Blue Demons kickoff in South Orange, N.J., at Noon ET.
