Track and Field Launches Indoor Season at Notre Dame

CHICAGO The DePaul men’s and women’s track and field teams open their 2007-08 indoor season on Friday at the Notre Dame Blue/Gold Invitational. The Blue Demons join squads from Butler and Detroit Mercy in addition to BIG EAST Conference rivals Marquette and Notre Dame at the Loftus Center.
The meet gets underway at 4 p.m. (CST) with the women’s high jump and men’s pole vault. DePaul begins competition at 5:20 p.m. as Lauren Rajski and Shauna Lurey enter the women’s 60m dash before Kwaku Attoh and Thomas Kent follow immediately in the men’s 60m dash.
DePaul’s throwers join the action at 5:45 p.m. with the men’s and women’s weight throw. Tammy Burris joins Ebonie Cobb, Melissa Fraser and Virginia MacFabe in the women’s event, while Brad Millar and Jim Theologes enter the men’s event. Throughout the 2006-07 season, Burris, MacFabe and Millar consistently surpassed BIG EAST Championship qualifying weight throw standards.
Joe Strawder takes on the men’s long jump at 6:15 p.m., and the women’s long jump follows immediately with Cynthia Edwards and Rajski. Strawder returns to the Blue Demons after a 2007 outdoor season that saw him reach the NCAA Regional Championships.
Allyson Petersen and Shannon Lane enter the women’s 500m dash at 6:15 p.m. before Erik Felt and Ryan Moore race in the men’s 500m dash. Mike Fry and Nick Schaefer follow in the men’s 5,000m run at 6:30 p.m., while the women’s and men’s 200m dash flights start at 6:55 p.m.
Field competition wraps up with the women’s and men’s shot put events at 6:45 p.m. Burris enters the contest with a DePaul record of 13.75m and will be joined by Cobb, while Millar and Theologes represent the Blue Demons in the men’s event.
The evening concludes with the women’s and men’s 4x400m relays at 7:30 p.m. The Blue Demons are also slotted to compete in the women’s and men’s 400m dash, women’s and men’s 1,000m run, and women’s 3,000m run.
