Track and Field Concludes Day One of SIU Spring Classic

CARBONDALE, Ill. – The DePaul men’s and women’s track and field teams posted five BIG EAST Championship qualifying performances in the hammer throw on Friday during day one of the Southern Illinois Spring Classic.  The Blue Demons hold second place in the women's team standings and fourth place in the men's team standings entering Saturday’s events at the Lew Hartzog Track.

Jamie Holifield took third place in the women’s hammer throw with a distance of 50.87m. Tammy Burris notched a mark of 49.97m to finish fifth and Virginia MacFabe followed in eighth with a 46.37m throw.  All three Blue Demons surpassed the BIG EAST qualifying standard of 45.12m.

The men’s hammer throw saw Brad Millar post a 54.29m performance to earn fifth place.  Curtis Hoag followed in 12th place with a mark of 46.55m.  Both DePaul throwers exceeded the BIG EAST standard of 43.40m.

The Blue Demons earned 11 points in the women’s standings and four points in the men’s standings.  Southern Illinois leads the women’s field with 21 points, while Indiana State tops all men’s teams with 13 points.

Saturday’s events open at 11 a.m. with the women’s long jump.
