Track and Field to Compete at Elmhurst and Illinois Invitationals

Ian Ianakov and Sara Polensky open the Elmhurst Invitational on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the men’s and women’s shot put, while Joe Strawder, Lauren Rajski and Cynthia Edwards follow in the men’s and women’s long jump. Strawder has cleared the BIG EAST Championship qualifying long jump standard of 6.80m in ever meet so far this season.
Track events get underway at 11 a.m. with the women’s 5,000m run as Terah Cheatham Reda Josifi and Colleen Stiles-Shields enter the race. Cheatham notched a team-best time of 18:21.62 at last week’s Chicagoland Championships.
The Blue Demons also compete in the women’s and men’s 100m dash, women’s and men’s 200m dash, women’s and men’s 400m dash, women’s and men’s 800m run, women’s and men’s 1,500m run, women’s and men’s 4x100m relay, women’s and men’s 3,000m steeplechase, women’s and men’s triple jump, women’s and men’s hammer throw, women’s and men’s discus, women’s 100m hurdles, men’s 110m hurdles, men’s 400m hurdles, men’s shot put and men’s javelin.

The University of Illinois Invitational begins on Sunday at 10 a.m. with Tammy Burris, Ebonie Cobb, Jamie Holifield and Virginia MacFabe in the women’s hammer throw and Curtis Hoag in the men’s shot put. Burris, Holifield and MacFabe all surpassed the BIG EAST standard of 45.13m three times this season. Hoag also qualified for the BIG EAST Championships in the men’s shot put with a mark of 14.67m two weeks ago at Purdue’s Mike Poehlein Invitational.
Brad Millar joins Hoag at 11 a.m. in the men’s hammer throw. Millar won the event at last week’s Chicagoland Championships and both Blue Demons have surpassed the qualifying standard of 43.40m in every meet thus far this season.
Anthony Becknek opens track events at noon in the men’s 3,000m steeplechase. The Blue Demon senior already holds two BIG EAST qualifying performances and a season-best time of 9:23.88.
The women’s 200m dash starts at 2:50 p.m. when Ivy Moffett, Kaaydah Nangle, LaShunta Sanders and Stephanie Williams race for DePaul. Williams posted a record time of 24.52 two weeks ago at the Bobby Lane Invitational. Piotr Lewkowski, Donnie Smith and Gabriel Vargas follow immediately in the men’s 200m dash. Vargas recorded a BIG EAST qualifying time of 22.10 at last week’s Chicagoland Championships.
The meet concludes with the women’s and men’s 4x400m relay at 4 p.m. The Blue Demons also compete in the women’s and men’s discus, women’s and men’s javelin, women’s and men’s triple jump, women’s and men’s long jump, women’s and men’s 100m dash, women’s and men’s 400m dash, women’s and men’s 800m run, women’s 4x100m relay, women’s shot put and men’s 1,500m run.­­­
