Track and Field Wins Elmhurst Invitational

ELMHURST, Ill. - The DePaul men's and women's track and field teams swept the team tiles on Saturday at the Elmhurst College Invitational. The Blue Demons collected seven first place performances and four BIG EAST Championship qualifying marks during the meet at Langhorst Field.
DePaul's women scored 131 points and topped a field of 21 teams, while the Blue Demon men posted 110 points to finish first out of 16 squads. The victories mark the second consecutive week that DePaul swept both team titles of a meet.
Brad Millar won the men's hammer throw with a season-best mark of 57.49m. He exceeded the NCAA Regional qualifying distance of 55.60m and the BIG EAST standard of 43.40m. Curtis Hoag followed in third place with a 47.31m qualifying throw.
The women's hammer throw saw Jamie Holifield take first with a 52.58m throw. Tammy Burris followed in second place with a mark of 51.88m as both Blue Demons surpassed the BIG EAST standard of 45.12m.
Field events also saw Cynthia Edwards clear 11.22m to win the women's triple jump. It marked her second jump this year longer than 11.20m.
On the track, Shauna Lurey won both the women's 100m dash and 200m dash. She posted a 100m time of 12.97 and a season-best 200m time of 26.49.
Men's track events saw Erik Felt win the men's 110m hurdle crown with a time of 15.91. DePaul took first place in the men's 4x400m relay with a time of 3:28.15. Richard Byrne, Greg Udzielak, Z Stein and Dan Branca passed the baton in the race.
The Blue Demons compete with a select squad at tomorrow's University of Illinois Invitational in Champaign. The meet opens at 10 a.m. with the women's hammer throw and men's shot put.
