Kolacz Notches BIG EAST Qualifying Performance at Drake Relays

DES MOINES, Iowa – Jakub Kolacz delivered a BIG EAST Championship qualifying performance in the men’s 10,000m run as the DePaul men’s and women’s track and field teams competed on Thursday and Friday at the Drake Relays. The Blue Demons also posted four season-best relay times at Drake Stadium.
Kolacz recorded a 10,000m time of 31:03.22 on Thursday to break through the BIG EAST qualifying standard of 31:08.00. He finished 13th out of 40 runners with the fastest 10,000m time from any Blue Demon this season.
Friday’s action opened with Mary Hodges, Kyra Coffey, LaShunta Sanders and Stephanie Williams notching a season-best 4x100m relay time of 47.45. The Blue Demon foursome finished 16th out of 27 teams while narrowly missing the DePaul record of 47.42.
Piotr Lewkowski, Donnie Smith, Gabe Vargas and Gabe Harris followed in the men’s 4x100m relay with a season-best time of 42.14. The DePaul quartet finished 18th out of 24 teams.
Allyson Petersen and Erica Scott joined Coffey and Sanders in the women’s 4x400m relay. They posted a season-best time of 3:51.01 and finished 26th out of 28 squads.
Gilbert Lifton and Richard Fugiel passed the baton with Harris and Vargas in the men’s 4x400m relay. Their time of 3:15.86 marked a season-best performance and earned 24th out of 29 teams.
The Blue Demons wrapped up Friday’s competition with the men’s 4x200m dash. Vargas, Lifton, Lewkowski and Harris notched a time of 1:27.22 and finished 11th out of 20 teams.
DePaul continues the Drake Relays on Saturday with the men’s and women’s hammer throw, the women’s sprint medley and the men’s 3,000m steeplechase. No team scores are kept at the meet that features nearly 8,000 athletes from 25 states.
