Track and Field Leads After Day One of Chicagoland Championships

Jamie Holifield opened the meet for DePaul with a first place finish in the women’s hammer throw. The senior posted a season-best mark of 53.12m and surpassed the BIG EAST Championship qualifying standard of 45.12m. Tammy Burris followed in second place with a qualifying throw of 52.77m and Virginia MacFabe took third place with a qualifying distance of 46.28m.
The women’s shot put saw Burris pick up her own first place finish with a 13.36m throw. It marked her second best performance of the season and exceeded the BIG EAST standard of 12.50m. Holifield took third place in the event with an 11.82m throw.
Not to be outdone by his fellow Blue Demons, Brad Millar won the men’s hammer throw with a personal-best mark of 55.00m. Curtis Hoag trailed in fourth place with a mark of 47.47m. Both throwers eclipsed the BIG EAST standard of 43.40m.
Jeremy Applebaum picked up a third place finish in the men’s 10,000m run with a time of 31:31.11. Jakub Kolacz followed in fifth place with a time of 32:10.12 and qualified for the Finish Line USA Junior Track and Field Championships. Saturday’s competition opens at 10:30 a.m. with the men’s javelin throw and concludes in the evening with the men’s and women’s 4x400m relays.
