Softball Stumbles at Loyola

CHICAGO –The nation's longest active winning streak ended at 20 games when the No. 14/11 DePaul softball team dropped a 3-0 ballgame to Loyola-Chicago, Wednesday at the
DePaul starter Becca Heteniak threw a one hitter, but Blue Demon fielding errors and passed balls allowed all three of Loyola's runs to score. Heteniak (16-4) suffered her first loss since March 18 when the Blue Demons lost to then-No. 6
Nora Schrober led off the Rambler first and reached on a error by Blue Demon short stop Shea Warren. Ellen Kresl followed with a walk to place runners at first and second. Shrober and Kresl attempted the double steal, but DePaul catcher, Jackie Tarulli-Fisher overthrew her target at third which allowed Shrober to score easily. Kresl would score on Kat Krause's fielder's choice.
The Blue Demon's best chance to score came in the third inning. Amber Patton took a four pitch walk with one out and Sandy Vojik smashed a ball over the left field fence, but it was foul by just a few feet.
Loyola's final run of the ballgame came on a passed ball in the fifth inning.
Loyola's Amy Solava (11-9) earned the win, allowing just two hits and struck out four Blue Demons batters.
