Millar and Strawder Compete at NCAA Mideast Regional

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Brad Millar and Joe Strawder represented the DePaul track and field program on Friday at the NCAA Mideast Regional Championships. Strawder tied for 19th in the men’s long jump, while Millar placed 22nd in the men's hammer throw at the University of Missouri's Audrey J. Walton Stadium.
Strawder cleared 7.11m in the long jump to record his fourth-best mark of the year and tie Marcus Brown of McNeese State. The DePaul freshman now boasts four jumps this year longer than 7.10m. Fellow BIG EAST jumper Tone Belt of Louisville won the event with 7.58m jump.
Millar's throw of 56.05m stands as his fourth-best performance of the season and is his fifth mark greater than 56.00m. Earlier this month, the Blue Demon freshman won the BIG EAST hammer throw title with a personal-best distance of 62.09m. The Mideast Region crown went to Cory Martin of Auburn, who posted a regional record throw of 71.42m.
DePaul's stay at the Mideast Regional concludes on Saturday with the women's hammer throw at 11 a.m. (CST). Tammy Burris and Jamie Holifield enter the event with respective season-bests of 55.45m and 54.21m.
The Mideast Regional features nearly 900 athletes from 88 Universities representing 13 states. The top five individuals from each event advance to the NCAA National Championships, which begin June 9 in Sacramento, Calif.
