Blue Demons and Arizona State Tangle on Saturday

OKLAHOMA CITY – The DePaul softball team faces Arizona State in a Women's College World Series elimination game on Saturday at 11 a.m.  The winner, plays the loser of the Tennessee/Arizona game at 6 p.m. on Saturday.  Both games on Saturday will be broadcast on ESPNHD.

The Blue Demons (46-12)  fell to the losers bracket after dropping a, 3-1 game to Washington on Thursday.  DePaul was no-hit in that game with its lone run coming on a Washington throwing error. 

Previous to the Women's College World Series the Blue Demons had out scored their opponents 25-2 with senior right-handed pitcher Tracie Adix not giving up an earned run at the Regional or Super Regional.

Arizona State was sent to the losers bracket after dropping a 2-0 game to Northwestern on Thursday.  The Sun Devils (54-16) have won all four meetings against the Blue Demons, but have not faced DePaul since 2003.  Each of the previous four meetings have been on neutral fields, including Arizona State's 1-0 win in 2003 at the NFCA Lead Off Classic.

The Sun Devils are led by All-American pitcher Katie Burkhart.  Burkhart suffered the loss on Thursday, but enters Saturday's contest with a 35-12 record and a 1.09 ERA.  Northwestern tabbed Burkhart with five hits.

Earlier this week, DePaul pitchers Becca Heteniak Adix were named All-Americans.  Heteniak (20-6) was named third team as a pitcher/utility player and has held her opponents to a .144 average.  Adix, a second team at-large selection has give up just 22 earned runs in 183.2 innings.
