CHICAGO – DePaul women’s soccer coach Erin Chastain announced the 2007 schedule as the program enters its third BIG EAST season. Chastain and the Blue Demons host eight matches during the regular season at Wish Field and open the campaign at the Cleveland State Fall Classic.
"We are looking forward to playing a very challenging 2007 schedule," said Chastain. "Our non-conference schedule will help prepare us for what will be a very competitive BIG EAST Conference schedule. Our staff and players are looking forward to getting started."
On Aug. 25, the Blue Demons host Northwestern in an exhibition game at Wish Field. Chastain was an assistant at Northwestern for three seasons while assistant coach Erica Westrich was the 1998 Big Ten Player of the Year for the Wildcats.
After the preseason tune-up, DePaul travels to Cleveland for the Cleveland State Fall Classic. The Blue Demons play Ohio on Friday, Aug. 31 before taking on host Cleveland State in a 2 p.m. match on Sunday, Sept. 2. St. Bonaventure is the fourth team in the weekend tourney.
A Sept. 5 visit to Loyola-Chicago opens a run of three straight matches against 2006 NCAA Tournament teams. The trio continues with a Sept. 7 game against Drake and a trip to Southeast Missouri State on Sept. 9. The Blue Demons are scheduled to face a total of eight NCAA Tourney teams during the 2007 season.
Following games at Evansville on Sept. 14 and against Northern Illinois on Sept. 16, DePaul starts BIG EAST play at Notre Dame. The game with the Fighting Irish is the first of 11 conference games on the 2007 slate. DePaul returns to Chicago on Sept. 23 to host IPFW for the final non-conference match of the season.
The regular season finishes with a stretch of 10 BIG EAST matches. A road trip to Cincinnati on Sept. 28 is followed by a home match two days later against Louisville.
The Blue Demons then begin the month of October playing on the road for two straight games before playing host to four consecutive matches. DePaul travels to St. John’s on Oct. 5 and Syracuse on Oct. 7. Villanova starts the homestand on Oct. 12 followed by Georgetown to finish the weekend. Connecticut and Providence visit Chicago the weekend of Oct. 19 with the Huskies at Wish Field on Friday followed by the Friars on Sunday.
The conclusion of the regular season features back-to-back road games against BIG EAST members. Following the trip to Rutgers on Oct. 26, the Blue Demons look to end the regular season on a high note as they pay a visit to Seton Hall on Oct. 28.
The 2007 BIG EAST Conference Championship begins with the first round on Nov. 1, and the quarterfinals on Nov. 4 at campus sites. The semifinals and championship are set for Morgantown, W. Va. on Nov. 9 and 11. The top five teams in each division qualify for the league tournament.
