CLEVELAND – The Erin Chastain era of DePaul women’s soccer started off with a 2-0 win over Ohio at the Cleveland State Fall Classic on Friday. The Blue Demons finish the tourney on Sunday against host Cleveland State. Callie Hemming and Shannon Williams found the net to lead the offensive attack.
The Blue Demons scored twice in a span of just over five minutes in the first half. Hemming’s first collegiate goal came at 18:56 on a header from an assist by Tiffany Jordan. Jordan’s serve into the box found a charging Hemming, who headed past Jess MacLean of Ohio.
DePaul (1-0-0) quickly added an insurance goal as Stefanie Foley set-up Williams. Williams beat Ohio’s back line and forced MacLean to come out of the net. She dribbled around the Ohio keeper and scored the game’s second goal at 23:48.
“We’re happy to start off our season with a win and to get two goals is great for us,” said Chastain. “We saw some good things out of our group. We’re happy we got to go deep into our roster and are looking forward to our match on Sunday.”
