CHICAGO Callie Hemming scored her second goal of the season in the 58th minute as DePaul played Northern Illinois to a 1-1 tie at Wish Field. The Huskies found in the net in the first half while neither team scored following the Hemming goal and a pair of overtime periods.
Northern Illinois (2-2-2) found the net first as Jestina Orlando gathered a loose ball in front of the DePaul net. She knocked in the eight-yarder at 15:19 on assists from Kelly Mullany and Maddie Lehman. It was her second goal of the season.
The two teams played even throughout the entire match with both sides generating scoring opportunities. DePaul goalkeeper Brittni Lally kept her team in the game as she made a diving stop on a line drive from Lisa Marier with just over 15 minutes left in the first half. Lally turned in a solid performance in the net with six saves on the afternoon.
Hemming knotted the score in the 58th minute off a long serve from Tara Strickland. Strickland's pass from the left sideline crossed the mouth of the NIU net, where Hemming sent in the one-timer at the far post for her second score of 2007. The equalizer came at 57:58 in the match.
Neither team could find the net over the remainder of the game. Five minutes after Hemming's goal, Lauren Pagone's bid for the game-winner hit the crossbar. Hemming got the rebound, but her shot went just over the crossbar.
DePaul (2-4-1) starts BIG EAST play next Friday at Notre Dame. Kickoff in South Bend is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET. The Blue Demons return to Wish Field on Sunday afternoon against IPFW for a 4 p.m. match. Sunday's game is the second part of a DePaul soccer doubleheader with the men's team taking on Connecticut at 1 p.m.
