A busy first half saw three goals in the first 14 minutes and a total of six goals between the two teams. Just 44 seconds into the action, Dyer scored her first goal of the afternoon on a penalty kick. Following an IPFW foul in the penalty box, the senior lined up the kick and tickled the twine for her second goal of the season.
Shannon Williams scored her fourth goal in the ninth minute to give the Blue Demons a two-goal advantage. Dominique Locascio started the play and found Dyer on the left side. Dyer sent a serve to the far post where Williams finished with the goal at 8:31.
IPFW (0-8-0) answered as Jenny Thornton tallied her third score of the season in the 14th minute. As DePaul keeper Kelsey Hoinkes came out of the goal,
The nets cooled off over the next 20 minutes before three more scores occurred in a two-minute span. Lauren Pagone scored her first collegiate goal at 33:22 on a one-timer from Chelsea Lindeman. Following Pagone’s score the two teams traded penalty kicks to end the first-half scoring with DePaul holding a 4-2 lead. Danielle Luther converted a penalty kick at 34:47 followed by Dyer’s second goal of the afternoon on a penalty kick at 35:30.
DePaul (3-5-1) held the Mastodons without a shot in the second half while compiling nine attempts. The fifth and final goal for the Blue Demons came in the 68th minute when Dyer’s corner kick found Locascio. Locascio headed in Dyer’s serve at 67:33 for her first collegiate goal.
