Women's Soccer Falls on the Road

VILLANOVA, Pa. The DePaul women’s soccer team opened its weekend road trip with a 3-0 loss to Villanova on Friday afternoon. Villanova scored a pair of first-half goals and added a third score in the final minute with Grace Hawkins scoring two of the three Wildcat goals. The Blue Demons conclude the trip on Sunday at Georgetown.
Villanova (11-3, 4-2 BIG EAST) found the net quickly with Hawkins scoring just 31 ticks into the action. Rachel Schuyler fed Hawkins and she beat DePaul’s Kelsey Hoinkes as the goalkeeper charged from the net to break up the play.
DePaul totaled eight corner kicks in the match and attempted to answer the early Wildcat goal with four corners in the first eight minutes of action. The Blue Demons also got off 12 shots with four on goal, forcing Villanova’s Molly Williams to make four saves.
Kaitlin Ryan found the net for the second Villanova goal in the 34th minute off assists from Erin Hardiman and Amy Greco. The scored remained at 2-0 until just 10 seconds left in regulation when Hawkins added her second score of the afternoon.
Hoinkes played all 90 minutes and finished the game with six saves while Morgan Celaya took a team-high four shots.
DePaul (2-12, 0-6 BIG EAST) finishes the weekend on Sunday at Georgetown. Kickoff at North Kehoe Field in Washington, D.C. is set for 1 p.m. ET.
Game Notes: Kelsey Hoinkes registered her fourth game this season with at least six saves... Villanova leads the series, 4-0-0.
