CHICAGO An own goal with just under two minutes left in overtime proved to be the difference as DePaul claimed its second straight victory. The 1-0 win over Seton Hall on Friday followed a 1-0 victory at Providence last Sunday.
DePaul (4-14-0, 2-8-0 BIG EAST) controlled much of the first half, outshooting the Pirates, 12-1. The Blue Demons also totaled four corner kicks, but were unable to find the net over the first 45 minutes. DePaul’s best chance came five minutes into the game when Michelle Scandora’s header was clear off the goal line by a Seton Hall defender.
The second half saw Seton Hall (5-10-2, 1-8-1 BIG EAST) turn the tables with increased offensive pressure, but the DePaul defense held the shutout through regulation and overtime. The Pirates totaled five second-half shots to three for the Blue Demons.
Kelsey Hoinkes registered her second straight shutout and finished the game with five saves. Her counterpart, Elizabeth Bond, totaled eight saves.
The Blue Demons conclude the regular season on Sunday against Rutgers at Wish Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. as DePaul’s senior class of Brittni Lally, Trisha Larson and Shannon Williams will be honored in a pregame ceremony.
Game Notes: The back-to-back wins are the first since Sept. 2007... the back-to-back shutouts are the first since three straight in Oct. 2004... Seton Hall now leads the series, 2-1-1.
