Throwers Open Sun Angel Track Classic

TEMPE, Ariz. Brad Millar posted another NCAA Regional qualifying hammer throw as the DePaul men’s and women’s track and field teams opened the Arizona State Sun Angel Track Classic on Friday. Tammy Burris and Melissa Fraser posted BIG EAST Conference Championship qualifying performances in the women’s hammer throw at Sun Angel Stadium.
Millar delivered a season-best hammer throw of 61.96m as he took sixth place in the men’s event. It marked Millar’s third performance this season greater than the NCAA Regional qualifying standard of 56.80. Simon Wardhaugh of Boise State won the event with a distance of 68.34m.
The women’s hammer throw preliminaries saw Burris place 14th with a mark of 50.63m, while Fraser followed in 17th place with a 46.25m throw. Both Blue Demons exceeded the BIG EAST qualifying standard of 45.12m for the third time in as many weeks. Sarah Stevens of Arizona State won the event with a 66.52m throw.
DePaul resumes competition at the Sun Angel Track Classic on Saturday at 3 p.m. (CST). Burris and Millar open the day’s events with the women’s and men’s discus throw. Action on the track begins at 6 p.m. when Claire Duck, Allyson Petersen and Mary Cate Quiett join the women’s 800m run.
