DePaul 4x800m Record Falls at Drake Relays

DES MOINES, Iowa Claire Duck, Allyson Petersen, Maureen Kuhta and Mary Cate Quiett set a DePaul record in the 4x800m relay on Friday as the women’s and men’s track and field teams competed at the Drake Relays. The Blue Demon foursome took sixth place in the event at Drake Stadium.
Duck, Petersen, Kuhta and Quiett passed the baton to clock a 4x800m time of 9:01.78. They finished sixth out of 17 squads while shattering the 1987 DePaul record of 9:38.95.
Friday’s relays also placed Quiett and Petersen in the women’s 4x400m race, where they were joined by Kyra Coffey and Stephanie Williams. The DePaul squad notched a time of 3:52.26 to finish 25th out of 34 teams.
The Blue Demons opened the day in the men’s 4x100m relay preliminaries, where Kwaku Attoh, Gilbert Lifton, Gabe Harris and Patrick Smith recorded a season-best time of 42.48. They placed 17th out of 20 teams and did not advance to the finals.
Melissa Fraser represented DePaul in Friday’s field events when she took 11th place in the women’s javelin throw. The Blue Demon freshman posted a throw of 44.89m as she delivered her sixth performance this year greater than the NCAA Regional Championship qualifying standard of 43.45m.
DePaul closes out the Drake Relays on Saturday when Brad Millar contends in the men’s hammer throw at 2:15 p.m. The Blue Demon sophomore enters the event with a season-best mark of 61.96m.
