DePaul Softball Earns I-AAA Award

DALLAS The DePaul softball program was honored by the I-AAA Athletic Directors Association for producing the deepest run by any I-AAA program in the 2008 NCAA Softball Championship the organization announced today.
The I-AAA Athletic Director’s Association awards a plaque in each NCAA sponsored sport to the I-AAA institution that finishes the highest in its respective NCAA Championship and the Blue Demons will be recognized during the organization’s annual meeting in Dallas this afternoon.
Head Coach Eugene Lenti’s squad posted a 3-2 record in the 2008 NCAA Championship, opening tournament play with a 3-1 win over Drake. After dropping a 6-0 decision to Northwestern, the Blue Demons roared back to beat Western Illinois, 6-0, and Northwestern, 3-2. The Wildcats then eliminated DePaul, 3-2, to win in the Evanston, IL region title.
DePaul finished the season with a 51-18 overall record and made the program’s 13th appearance in the NCAA Tournament. DePaul also won the BIG EAST Tournament Championship.
