Athletics Canada announced its Under-23 team following the conclusion of the Canadian Track and Field Championships. The event also served as a qualifier for the upcoming Beijing Olympics in August. Ranked third in the Under-23 division coming into the meet, Millar posted a hammer throw distance of 62.71m, placing him on top of the pack. The mark surpassed his previous top performance of 62.09m made while competing for the Blue Demons. Overall he placed third. Winning the competition was the Olympic nominee, James Steacy, with a throw of 78.52m.
The BIG EAST champion tributes much of his improvement and success to DePaul track and field throwing coach, Brandon Murer. Coach Murer helped guide Millar to two consecutive BIG EAST outdoor championships becoming the first Blue Demon to win an individual outdoor title as Millar claimed the hammer throw title in both 2007 and 2008. Murer has helped send four additional throwers to the championship meet last season, including fellow BIG EAST champion Melissa Fraser.
Millar returns to Blue Demon squad this fall for his junior campaign.
