Toledo Tops DePaul, 2-0

TOLEDO, Ohio Molly Cornwell scored a pair of goals to lead Toledo to a 2-0 win over the DePaul women's soccer team on Sunday afternoon. The Blue Demons return to Wish Field for a two-match homestand next weekend against Iowa State and Western Illinois.
The Rockets scored the eventual game-winner just 82 seconds into the match as Cornwell and finished a played started by Sarah Blake and Ali Leak. Leak's serve in front of the DePaul goal found Blake who set up Cornwell for a goal to the upper right corner at 1:22.
Lauren Pagone nearly knotted the score at 1-1 in the 31st minute, but her header off a cross from Casey Mercurio was saved by Toledo goalkeeper Andrea Plewes.
Cornwell added her second goal midway through the second half as she beat DePaul's Brittni Lally to the back post from the left side at 65:27.
Toledo (2-0-0) totaled 11 shots in the match while the Blue Demons fired off seven attempts. Lally finished the game with three saves while Plewes totaled two saves in the first half followed by a save from Vicki Traven in the second half.
Pagone led DePaul (0-4-0) with three shots and the Blue Demons finished the afternoon with four corner kicks to six for the Rockets.
DePaul returns to Wish Field next weekend for games against Iowa State and Western Illinois. The Blue Demons and Cyclones tangle on Friday afternoon before Western Illinois visits Lincoln Park on Sunday.
Game Notes: DePaul started nine players listed as freshmen or sophomores on the roster... the series with Toledo is tied, 1-1-0... DePaul claimed the first meeting, 3-1, on Sept. 5, 2003 at Wish Field.
