Amber Patton Invited to Women's National Team Selection Camp

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The Amateur Softball Association of America (ASA) announced today its additional list of 10 athletes who have accepted an invitation to the 2009 USA Softball Women’s National Team Selection Camp. These 10 athletes will join the 27 athletes, announced at a previous date, at the Selection Camp in Chula Vista, Calif., June 8-12.
DePaul senior All-American Amber Patton joins Blue Demon assistant coach and Olympic medalist Cat Osterman at the Selection Camp. Patton is a finalist for the USA Softball Collegiate Player of Year Award and finished her senior campaign with a .496 average and a school-record 89 hits. The senior from Forsyth, Illinois set a BIG EAST Conference record with 41 hits during league play while she ranks among the nation’s leaders in on base percentage, batting average and toughest to strike out.
Patton is the fourth Blue Demon to accept an invitation to the National Team Selection Camp. Missy Nowak attended the camp in 1996 while pitchers Lindsay Chouinard and Sarah Martz participated in 2003 and 2004, respectively.
On the schedule for the USA Softball Women’s National team program in 2009 are several International events including the World Cup of Softball presented by KFC in Oklahoma City, Okla. July 16-20. The World Cup will feature the top four finishers from the 2008 Olympic Games including a Gold medal game rematch between Japan and the United States.
