Brad Millar Enters NCAA Outdoor National Championships

CHICAGO Brad Millar of the DePaul men’s track and field team faces the nation’s elite this week at the 2009 NCAA Outdoor National Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The Blue Demon hammer thrower enters competition on Wed., June 10 at the John McDonnell Field.
Millar joins the hammer throw preliminaries at 10:30 a.m. (CDT) with a national ranking of No. 17 and a personal-best distance of 64.79m. The junior makes his first trip to the championships after placing fourth at the NCAA Mideast Regionals on May 30 with a throw of 63.16m.
Holding the No. 1 seed in the field is Chris Rohr of Missouri, who tops the national descending order list with a season-best throw of 71.92m. The top-12 throwers from Wednesday’s preliminary advance to Friday’s final round beginning at 1 p.m.
Millar, a junior out of Port Elgin, Ontario, is the second DePaul student-athlete in as many years to compete at the NCAA Outdoor National Championships. Last season, Melissa Fraser advanced to the national championships after taking third place at the Mideast Regionals. He becomes just the sixth-ever national qualifier in Blue Demon track and field history and the first male thrower since Carey Ryan earned All-American accolades in the hammer throw in 2001.
