| Hello Blue Demon Fans, My name is Annie Demas and I am a senior on the DePaul softball team. This is my first blog, so bare with me. I will be writing blogs throughout my senior year to give the fans insight on what life is like for a Division I student-athlete. At the end of last school year we had our annual athletic banquet (check out my photos) where team awards and individual awards were distributed to the various teams and athletes. The softball team happened to receive the "Team Spirit" award, meaning that we attended the most games of other teams to show our support for every team at DePaul. We all got gift cards to Uncle Julio's restaurant which... if you know my team, was the best present we could get. We can never have enough food. I have posted some pictures from the banquet that I took and also ones that my teammates sent me. I will be posting pictures along with every other blog or so to give you something to laugh at...my teammates are pretty crazy sometimes. Since it is the summer, we are all on our own to workout and stay in shape for the upcoming softball season. This is very important because when we go back to school on September 7th and have tournaments right away for Fall Ball. Our strength and conditioning coach, Bryce, has given us each a packet full of different sprint workouts and lifting workouts and I HOPE my teammates have at least started it but...then again, some of them like to wait to pump it all out this last month of summer Everybody get ready for testing the first week back!! This upcoming season is very important because we need to come back and prove to everybody, ourselves and coaches included, that we are a top 25 team in the nation and that losing four senior starters does not change that. I know that we are all determined to be the best team we can be but that all starts during the summer and everything we do until the end of the season (hopefully in June). This being my senior year and all, I want to give it everything I have (along with the other seniors and I know that our teammates will be right behind us. The three other seniors are Becca Heteniak (All-American pitcher), Marie Thompson (outfielder/catcher), and Shea Warren (utility) or as coach refers to her, Derek Jeter. I remember meeting all of them the first day, moving into my dorm freshman year. We have lived together all four years and I couldn't ask for better roommates or a better senior class to graduate with. We have been through so much together, good times and bad times....6am conditioning, and I know this year will be a good year to go out on. Well that's all I have for my first blog, I hope you enjoyed it and there are many more to come. Go Blue Demons, |
