ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The DePaul women's tennis team closed out the ITA Midwest Regional on Sunday at Michigan's Varsity Tennis Center. Katarina Milinkovic advanced to the Round of 16 in the singles bracket, while No. 31 Selma Salkovic and Gia McKnight advanced to the quarterfinals of the doubles bracket.
Playing in one of the most prestigious fall tournaments with some of the best competition in the Midwest, the Blue Demons proved they were a team to be reckoned with in the winter. DePaul had five singles players reach the Main Draw, while two doubles pairs advanced to the second round.
On Sunday, it was the Milinkovic in the Round of 16, but the Blue Demon senior was unable to advance. Milinkovic gave No. 6 Maria Mosolova from Northwestern everything she had in her arsenal; however, Mosolova proved to be too much and took the match 6-0, 6-2.
Milinkovic, who received a first round bye, finished the tournament with an impressive 1-1 singles record and improves to 5-5 this season. The Blue Demon senior boasts an extraordinary 76-34 career singles record.
In the doubles bracket, Michelle Sulahian and Sam Critser from Michigan topped Salkovic and McKnight in the quarterfinals, 8-3. The Blue Demons pair fall to 6-2 on the young season, while Salkovic picked up her 100th career doubles victory at the Midwest Regional.
Salkovic entered the tournament with a career 98-32 record in doubles and with a 2-1 record in Ann Arbor, the senior becomes the only Blue Demon to registered 100 career doubles wins.
DePaul closes out the Fall portion of their schedule at the Bronco Invitational, Nov. 5-7.
