CHICAGO - The #35 DePaul women's tennis team finished its doubleheader with an impressive 7-0 win over Western Illinois on Saturday at the Lakeshore Athletic Club. The Blue Demons, who topped Eastern Michigan earlier in the day, dropped just four total sets in their dominating victory.
The Blue Demons made quick work of the doubles point as DePaul did not lose a game on any court. Gia McKnight and Katarina Milinkovic teamed-up on the first court, while freshmen Kelsey Lawson and Christiana Raymond were victorious on the second court. In the third position, Cali Gustafson and Samantha Kaneta paired up for their second win of the season.
DePaul's confidence carried over into singles play with the Blue Demons claiming straight-set victories on three courts. Gustafson and Kaneta each registered their fourth singles win of the season with their respective 6-0, 6-0 wins.
Gustafson was the first off the courts in the number six position while Kaneta finished off Melissa Kaufmann on the fifth court.
Milinkovic clinched DePaul's win with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Marcela Brandao in top position. Milinkovic improves to 10-8 on the season and is 2-0 in the number one spot.
The Blue Demons head to Chapel Hill, N.C. for the National Indoor Qualifier next weekend. DePaul opens the tournament against #6 UNC on January 29 and will play either #31 VCU or #15 Georgia in the second round on Saturday or Sunday.
