Quiett Quickens Her Pace at the Georgia Tech Invitational

ATLANTA – Members of the DePaul men’s and women’s track and field team had a spectacular day at the second and final afternoon of the Georgia Tech Invitational. Mary Cate Quiett stole the spotlight, lowering her 800m record for the third time this season.
Quiett, a junior out of Mishawaka, Ind., faced some of the best competition the nation has to offer, racing against both collegiate and professional talent in today’s race. She kept pace with the leaders throughout the entire 800m, but was edged out in the closing meters by former UNC Charlotte standout Aja Jackson. Regardless, the junior clocked her fastest time to-date with a mark of 2:06.27-- a half-second improvement over her previous career-best time of 2:06.77.
Overall, Quiett placed seventh and ranked third amongst the collegians.
Tonderai Tomu shaved a couple of hundredths off his personal-best 400m time today, placing 19th overall behind a 47.10 performance. In the women’s 400m, Lindsey Holden recorded her third sub-56 second time of the season. The freshman crossed the finish line in a blistering time of 55.48 to place 17th.
In the triple jump, Joe Strawder won his heat after surpassing a distance of 15.02m. Overall, he finished in eighth place.
In the final race for the Blue Demons today, Kelcie Daniels placed third in her heat of the 400m hurdles after clocking a time of 1:02.78.
This weekend’s action concludes with the Chicago Penultimate hosted by the University of Chicago. Next up for DePaul is the NCAA Championship Preliminary Round on May 28-19.
