Five DePaul Track and Field Athletes Named All-Academic

CHICAGO - Five DePaul track and field athletes and both the men's and women's teams were awarded All-Academic honors by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Mary Cate Quiett, Melissa Fraser, Matthew Graham, Brad Millar and Tim Nedow were recognized for their tremendous performance in the classroom and on the track, as members of the 2010 All-Academic Track and Field Team.
The BIG EAST led all conferences with 12 schools attaining All-Academic status. A record total of 557 student-athletes representing 152 institutions composed the women's All-Academic Team while a record total of 357 student-athletes representing 118 institutions composed the men's team.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, student-athletes must have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.25 and have met either the NCAA Division I Indoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard or the NCAA Division I Outdoor regional or national qualify standard in their respective event.
Quiett was the 2010 BIG EAST Indoor 800-meter Champion and also lowered her DePaul outdoor record in the 800m to 2:05.92 en route to a second-place finish in the opening round of the NCAA Championship West Preliminary.
Fraser was the 2010 BIG EAST Champion in the javelin, and her season-best hammer throw of 55.54m set a new DePaul record. The junior also extended her DePaul record to 51.47m in the javelin.
Graham set the DePaul record in the 3,000m after posting a time of 8:18.12. Graham also set another DePaul record in the 3,000m steeplechase at the BIG EAST Championship with a third-place time of 8:51.48.
Millar became the fourth All-American in DePaul track history after his performance at the NCAA Track and Field Championships. The senior placed first in the hammer throw at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championship with a toss of 64.45. He later would throw his career-best 66.19 in the DePaul Relays. In the BIG EAST Indoor Championship he tossed a career-best of 20.80m to earn a first-place finish in the weight throw.
Nedow earned all-conference honors after placing third in the shot put at the BIG EAST Indoor Championship with a distance of 16.99m. Nedow placed fourth in the shot put at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships with a throw of 17.37m. During the season Nedow broke the DePaul discus record with a throw of 53.89m.
