Salkovic and McKnight Start Fall Season Strong

NORMAN, Okla. - DePaul's Gia McKnight and Selma Salkovic understood that preseason rankings were judgments prior to stepping on the court and they would have to earn that ranking throughout the season - if Friday's start is any indication, the No. 31 Blue Demon pair is off to an encouraging 2-0 start.
McKnight and Salkovic played as if they had been together for years in their first match of the Fall Sooner Invitational at the Headington Family Tennis Center. The duo cruised to an impressive, 8-0 opening round victory over Arkansas Little-Rock's Yana Kakovkina and Rachel Pierce. McKnight and Salkovic continued to mesh well in its second match with the tandem claiming an 8-4 win over Arkansas' Kelsey Sundaram and Jade Frampton.
Freshman Kelsey Lawson and senior Katarina Milinkovic also won their A-flight doubles match as they battled the Red Raiders' Kelsy Garland and Samantha Adams to an 8-6 victory. The pair would slide into the consolation side of the A-flight with an 8-4 loss to No. 47 Marta Lesniak and Heather Steinbauer from SMU in the round of eight.
The Blue Demon women combined for 4-4 mark in doubles play while Milinkovic and Salkovic each won their A-flight singles match and advanced to the quarterfinals of their bracket.
Salkovic defeated OU's Mia Lancaster on her home court by a score of 6-4, 6-3 while Milkinkovic topped Irina Paraschiv from North Texas 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (10-8).
The Blue Demons continue action at the Sooner Fall Invitational on Saturday.
