NORMAN, Okla. - The DePaul women's tennis team finished the Oklahoma Sooner Fall Invitational with five more victories - three in the singles flights and two in doubles action. Freshman Christiana Raymond won the C-singles consolation bracket, while the No. 31 Blue Demon of Selma Salkovic and Gia McKnight advanced to the finals of the A-doubles bracket before play concluded as participating teams left due to travel arrangements.
Raymond improved to 3-1 on the young season with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Tulsa's Carolina Beaulieu to take home top honors in the consolation bracket. Also in the C-flight, Kelsey Lawson topped Yana Kakovkina 6-2, 6-1 for her second singles win the weekend.
Salkovic rounded out the singles wins with a 6-1, 0-6, 6-4 victory over Texas Tech's Kelsey Garland in the A-flight. The senior went 3-1 during the weekend and improves to 73-35 all-time in singles action.
The doubles brackets did not play out as teams began to depart due to travel plans. In the A-flight, McKnight and Salkovic improved to 3-0 with a 8-4 win over Oklahoma State's Natalie Shatjkovskaya and Kanyapat Narattana. The pair would have faced SMU's No. 47 ranked pair of Marta Lesniak and Heather Steinbauerin the finals.
Cali Gustafson and Raymond overwhelmed Viktoriya Plyuta and Andrea Steen-Rosten (UALR) as the Blue Demon pair cruised to an 8-0 victory in the B-doubles bracket.
Salkovic travels to the Riviera/ITA All-American next weekend to compete against the nation's best collegiate tennis student-athletes. Qualifying brackets will be announced later this week.
