CHICAGO - DePaul track and field head coach Dave Dopek recently released the 2011-12 indoor season schedule which has the Blue Demons opening up on Friday at the Blue & Gold Meet hosted by Notre Dame. The meet is slated to begin at 4 p.m. in the Loftus Sports Center and is the first of four meets that the Fighting Irish will host during the indoor season.
At last season's Blue & Gold, nine Blue Demons registered BIG EAST Conference qualifying marks in their respective events. Current senior Tim Nedow took home first place in the shot put while setting a DePaul record with 18.08m throw, breaking the former record of 17.92 meters set by Frank Guzman in 2002.
Melissa Fraser and Lindsey Holden were also among the Blue Demons who registered conference qualifying marks as Fraser posted a third-place finish in the weight throw (15.98m) and Holden took second in the 400m dash (57.14).
The Blue & Gold Meet is the Blue Demons' only event in the month of December with the schedule picking up again in January. DePaul's first meet in the new year is set for January 14 at the Badger Classic hosted by the University of Wisconsin in Madison, Wis.
The Blue Demons return to Notre Dame the following weekend for the Notre Dame Open on January 21 before traveling to Bloomington, Ind., for the Indiana Relays.
After the trip to the University of Indiana, DePaul heads to Notre Dame for a third meet--this time, for a two-day event as the Blue Demons are scheduled to compete at the Meyo Invitational of February 3 and 4.
In its last meet before the BIG EAST Conference Indoor Championships, DePaul travels to the Iowa State Classic on February 10 and 11 in Ames, Iowa.
On February 18 and 19, the BIG EAST is scheduled to host its indoor championships at the New Balance Track & Field Center at the Armory in New York, N.Y. During last season's indoor championships, Nedow finished in first in shot put--earning him the title of BIG EAST Champion--while Tonderai Tomu (400m dash) and Matthew Graham (3,000m run) each placed third in their respective events. Also at the event, current junior Lindsey Holden set a new DePaul record in the 400m with a time of 55.83.
DePaul wraps up its regular season in its fourth and final trip to Notre Dame as it is scheduled to compete in the Alex Wilson Invitational on March 2 and 3. The invite is the Blue Demons' last meet before the NCAA Indoor Championships on March 9 and 10 in Nampa, Idaho.
