Blue Demons Fall to Long Beach State

CHICAGO - The DePaul women's tennis team suffered a 6-1 loss to No. 44 Long Beach State on Saturday at the Lakeshore Athletic Club. The Blue Demons fall to 10-8, while Long Beach State improves to 13-5 and handed DePaul its first home loss of the season.
Every match was competitive from the opening serve. The 49ers took the doubles point with wins in the first and second positions. Cali Gustafson and Christiana Raymond won their ninth doubles match with an impressive 8-3 win over Julie Luzar and Sarah Cantlay in the third position.
Moving into singles action, the high intensity and incredibly competitive matches continued as four matches took three sets to complete.
Kelsey Lawson evened the score at one with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Rachel Manasse on the fourth court. The win was Lawson's 21st of the season and fourth in number four spot.
Long Beach State won the remaining singles matches. Katarina Milinkovic, Raymond, Selma Salkovic and Gustafson all battled into a third set, before dropping their respective matches.
DePaul returns to the courts tomorrow in South Bend, Ind. The Blue Demons square off with Texas A&M at Notre Dame's Ecks Tennis Pavilion.
