CHICAGO – With fingers crossed, DePaul’s softball players and coaches will gather at the Sullivan Athletic Center Sunday night to discover their postseason fate.
The NCAA Softball Selection Show will be televised at 9 p.m. on ESPNU, and the Blue Demons will be watching intently to see if they will compete in the NCAA Championship tournament for the 14th time in the last 15 years.
DePaul’s resume for an at-large bid includes a 39-13 record and a 33 RPI. The RPI (Ratings Percentage Index) is the NCAA’s calculation of the Blue Demons’ overall strength compared to other Division I programs in the country.
In addition, DePaul finished the season on a 19-2 run including a 16-game winning streak.
At-large bids will be extended to 34 teams in the 64-team field. Conference champions will receive the 30 automatic berths.
Should the Blue Demons qualify, they would most likely be placed in either the Missouri or Michigan regional.
Last year, DePaul beat Creighton and lost twice to Illinois in Columbia, Mo.
