Two Move Forward to Championships

Eugene, Ore.- The DePaul men's and women's track and field teams competed at the first day of the NCAA West Preliminary in Eugene, Ore. Alanna Kovacs and Tim Nedow have performed well enough to move forward to the NCAA Championships in Des Moines, Iowa.
Kovacs competed in the women's javelin and placed fourth with a toss of 50.42m. This will be Kovacs second year in a row competing in the NCAA championships. Melissa Fraser also competed in the women's javelin she just missed the finals and finished in 17th place with a distance of 46.58m.
Also representing the women's team, Mary Cate Quiett ran in the 800m. Quiett finished in 23rd place with a time of 2:08.27. She will compete in tomorrow's quarterfinal. Earlier this season, she placed third at the BIG EAST Conference Championships with a season-best time of 2:07.08.
On the men's side, Nedow competed in the men's shot put. Nedow finished in 10th place with a distance of 17.80m. Finishing in 10th place has allowed, Nedow to compete at the 2011 NCAA Championships. Last year at the NCAA West Perliminaries, He threw a distance of 17.90m to advance to the 2010 NCAA Championships.
The NCAA West Preliminary continues tomorrow, when Fraser returns to compete in the discus and Matthew Graham runs in the 3,000m steeplechase.
