NEW ORLEANS - The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has announced that both the DePaul men's and women's track and field teams have earned All-Academic status for their 2011 seasons.
To qualify for All-Academic status, teams must earn a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or better. On the men's side, the Blue Demon squad finished with a GPA of 3.17 while the DePaul women's track and field team finished with a GPA of 3.40 combined during the indoor and outdoor seasons.
A total of 90 men's teams and 164 women's teams garnered All-Academic status for their respective institutions. The BIG EAST had 12 women's squads merit All-Academic honors, the most among all conferences nationwide. The BIG EAST also had seven men's teams make the list, the second highest total for any conference in the country.
Brigham Young University collected the title of men's Indoor Track and Field Scholar Team of the Year while Florida State earned the men's Indoor Track and Field Scholar Team of the Year award. Texas was named the women's Indoor Track and Field Scholar Team of the Year and Oklahoma was named the women's Outdoor Track and Field Scholar Team of the Year.
This announcement comes after DePaul student-athletes Matthew Graham, Tim Nedow, Melissa Fraser, and Mary Cate Quiett each earned individual USTFCCCA All-Academic distinction last week for their efforts in track and field and in the classroom.
