CHICAGO - The DePaul men's track and field team has announced the addition of three student-athletes for the 2011-2012 season in Jordon Vaughn, Adam Kovacs, and Anthony Babicz.
Vaughn comes to the Blue Demons from Union Grove High School in Atlanta, Ga. In 2007, Vaughn was a national champion in the 100m dash at both the AAU and USATF youth national championships. As a senior, Vaughn placed first at the Eagles Landing Chick-fil-A Invitational in the 100m with a personal-best time of 10.59.
Both Kovacs and Babicz are set to make the coming season a family affair as they will join their older siblings on the DePaul squad. He placed fourth in the javelin at the 2011 Canadian Junior Championships with a personal-best throw of 61.09 meters. His personal best in the hammer throw has been measured at 46.07 meters. Adam's older sister, Alanna, is currently a senior on the women's squad.
Babicz, whose older brother Matt throws for DePaul, hails from Mt. Prospect, Ill., where his discus throw of 48.79 meters made him the 2011 3A Sectional champion in the for Prospect High School. Also as a senior, he finished as the runner up in the 3A Sectional in the shot put with a throw of 16.34 meters.
All three student-athletes come to DePaul in hopes of increasing the program's success in both sprints and throws.
